Charles Stewart named Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Charles Stewart as Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Provost. Dr. Stewart has served in this role in an interim capacity since July 2025.

 

As the chief academic officer, the Lake Charles native will lead the university’s academic mission, faculty development, and student success initiatives, with a particular focus on creating and expanding programs that meet regional workforce needs.

 

“Charles brings a wealth of administrative experience that will be an asset to our campus community as we produce workforce-ready citizens,” LSU Eunice Chancellor Dr. Nancee Sorenson said. “He cares deeply about our academic mission, and I am excited to see our continued growth under his leadership.”

 

Dr. Stewart joined LSU Eunice as the Dean of Arts and Sciences in June 2025 before assuming interim provost duties the following month. His tenure has already been marked by a commitment to program development and community partnerships.

 

Prior to joining LSUE, Dr. Stewart served as the Dean of the College of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics at McNeese State University. His extensive background in the Louisiana community college system includes 19 years at SOWELA Technical Community College, where he held various leadership positions, including Dean of Arts and Sciences.

 

He was recently selected for the upcoming Leadership EXCEL 2026 cohort, organized by the Acadia Parish and Jeff Davis Parish Chambers of Commerce.

 

Dr. Stewart holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Lamar University, as well as master’s and bachelor’s degrees in mathematics with concentrations in statistics from McNeese State University.

 

Beyond his academic leadership, Dr. Stewart serves as the Board President for the Calcasieu Soccer Club. He is married to Dr. Wendy Whelan-Stewart, a professor of English at McNeese State University, and they have one son, Asa, a fifth-grade student at EDS.
