LSU Eunice Partners With LSU To Bring Enhanced Student Pathways In Fire and Emergency Services

July 24, 2025

Louisiana State University Eunice (LSUE) and Louisiana State University (LSU) are proud to announce a joint effort that creates a clear, cost-effective path for students pursuing careers in fire and emergency services. This collaboration is facilitated through LSU Online.

In this pathway, students start their educational journey by earning an online Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Fire and Emergency Services through LSUE. After finishing the associate, eligible students can transfer seamlessly into the fully online Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Fire and Emergency Services Administration (FESA) from LSU.

Student Benefits

  • Automatic Admission: Students who complete the AAS degree at LSUE and meet the published admissions criteria of the college will receive automatic admission to the LSU College of Engineering.
  • Transfer Credit Advantage: Students can transfer 60 earned credit hours from LSUE directly into the LSU BS in FESA.
  • Save Time and Money: By starting at LSUE, students benefit from lower tuition rates and avoid credit loss during transfer, making the path to a bachelor’s degree more affordable and efficient.

“This opportunity gives students a direct, affordable path to a bachelor’s degree and a future in leadership,” said program coordinator Professor Rudy Toranto. “We’re proud to support first responders from their first class to their next promotion.”

“This collaboration reflects the LSU family’s shared commitment to academic excellence and real-world career preparation. Students should feel confident that every course they take builds toward their long-term success.”

Career-Aligned Curriculum

  • The programs have been designed to ensure students are well-prepared to advance from technical coursework into administrative, safety, and leadership roles within the field.
  • Courses cover a range of subjects including emergency response, fire protection systems, hazardous materials, project and disaster management, legal aspects of emergency services, and strategic planning.

“It’s a win for students and for the workforce,” Professor Toranto explained. “They’re getting the skills they need without losing time, credits, or momentum.”

This partnership represents a major step forward in preparing the next generation of fire and emergency service professionals, and it reinforces both institutions' commitment to academic success, student support, and professional development in public safety fields.
