EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice Program Coordinator of Medical Billing and Coding Dr. Kina Sweet was honored by the LSU Online And Continuing Education team, it was recently announced at their spring conference.  Dr. Sweet was given the “Meeting Students’ Needs” Award at their “Innovation Series” conference and award ceremony this Monday at the LSU Lod Cook Conference Center.

The 2023 Spring Innovation Series Event was entitled, “Keeping Students First: Building Equitable Bridges to the Future.”

Dr. Sweet was one of seven recipients of awards given out by LSU Online and Continuing Education.

“It is humbling to be awarded by your peers as they see the work you do on a daily basis,” Dr. Kina Sweet said.  “I have consistently given my students what I always wanted when I was a student.  There are barriers to forging on an educational journey, and I feel if we can step in and lend a hand and point them in the right direction, they can be successful.”

Dr. Sweet, a former LSU Eunice student, joined LSUE in July 2020.  Since her arrival, the LSUE Medical Billing and Coding program has enjoyed significant growth, recently producing the largest graduating class in the program’s history in the Fall 2022 semester.

“Dr. Sweet is the epitome of being a teacher, mentor and friend,”  LSU Eunice Chancellor Dr. Nancee Sorenson said.  “It is a joy to watch her enthusiasm for her profession and her compassion for her students.”

The LSU Eunice Medical Billing and Coding Program is currently ranked the 14th best two-year online program by EduMed.org.  LSUE entered the rankings beginning during the 2020 academic year.
