Welcome to the Veteran Affairs Orientation Page

Application Fee Waived

Applicants for admission who indicate that they are a veteran or active military on their admissions application have their application fee automatically waived.  Applicants are notified that in order for the application fee to remain waived they will need to submit their DD214 or NOBE to the Admissions Office.

Military Articulation and Transfer Process

A student who has military work experience, may submit a copy of their DD214 to the Student Records Office to be awarded up to 12 hours of credit at LSU Eunice.  This credit must be used towards free electives.

A copy of a student’s JST/ACE transcript allows veterans or service members to receive coursework credit from military training and correspondence courses.  A review of the JST/ACE transcript will be conducted by the Director of Veterans Affairs and forwarded to both the student’s division head and the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for approval.

Students transferring to another college or university should forward copies of their DD214s and JST/ACE transcripts to that school in case there are credits at the receiving university that may be granted.

Deployment/Readmission Policy

If a student is deployed during the course of a semester, copies of the orders should be submitted to the Registrar’s Office.  Under these circumstances, students may be eligible for a back dated withdrawal as well as a full refund for associated tuition and fees.  To be readmitted to the University, students must reapply for admission.

Dependents Educational Assistance (Tuition Exemption) (Title 29)

Dependents of deceased or disabled veterans may turn in their certificates to the Registrar’s Office and must contact the Registrar’s Office to get their VA tuition exemption EVERY semester. Students receiving this exemption must take a full-time course load. (To find out if dependents of veterans qualify for this, please go to www.vetaffairs.la.gov and put in your zip code to find your local parish VA representative for assistance.)

State Tuition Exemption Program (STEP) National Guard

Every semester (6-8 weeks prior to start date), the Registrar’s Office receives a list of students in the National Guard who are eligible for the State Tuition Exemption Program.  To obtain the tuition exemption, students must not be on academic probation, and they must contact the Registrar’s Office to get their VA tuition exemption every semester.

GI Bill

There are several types of benefits available through the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.  Your status as active military, veteran, spouse or dependent of a veteran along with other circumstances are taken into consideration when determining the type of benefit you are eligible to receive.  The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs will determine the type of benefit you are eligible to receive as well as the length and amount of those benefits.

Active duty service members and dependents who believe they are eligible for GI Bill benefits should apply for those benefits using the Online Education Benefits Application at vets.gov or through your ebenefits account. The VA Regional Office in Muskogee, Oklahoma processes applications and notifies recipients of their eligibility by mail. If you have questions about completing the application please contact the VA Regional Office at 888-442-4551 or contact your local parish VA representative by using  www.vetaffairs.la.gov

If the student is a spouse or dependent applying for the Post-9/11 GI Bill, the service member must first request a transfer of benefits before the student applies through the Online Education Benefits Application.

If a student has received VA benefits at another school, a Request For Change of Program or Place of Training will need to be submitted via the Online Education Benefits Application.

Academic Services

Special Group Registration

Student veterans are eligible to register for classes one week prior to the initial start date of the early registration period for each semester if they identified themselves as active military or veteran on their admissions application.

Disability Services

Disability Services assists students in identifying and developing accommodations and services to help overcome barriers to the achievement of personal and academic goals.  Services are provided for students with temporary or permanent disabilities.  Accommodations and services are based on the individual student’s disability-based need.  Students must provide current documentation of their disabilities.  Students should contact the disability office early so that necessary accommodations can be arranged.  Please go to the Science Building, room 147 or call 337-550-1204 for more information.

Tutoring

Free tutoring is available to all registered students.  The Tutoring Center, located in the Science Building, room 145, offers help with homework, test preparation, and study strategies in many subject areas.  The tutoring services are provided by peer tutors and no appointment is necessary.  Free online tutoring through NetTutor is available to all students as well.  NetTutor online tutoring can be accessed on the LSU Eunice website by visting the Tutoring Services page.
