Chapter 1607
REAP (Reserve Educational Assistance Program)

First time applicants: must complete VA Form 22-1990 (Application for VA Education Benefits). To expedite the process it is recommended that this application is filled out online at https://vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/main.asp Students must also provide a copy of the DD Form-2384 (Notice of Basic Eligibility), which is given to them by an Education Services Officer from their unit. The copy of the DD-2384 must be dropped off or mailed to the VA Office in Room 112, Acadian Center. These Students must also provide a copy of the "Member-4" page of the DD Form 214 (Certificate or Release or Discharge from Active Duty).

After the application is processed by the VA, students will receive a letter stating their "Explanation of Benefits". This letter will tell the student the amount of VA Educational Benefits they are eligible for. All students must also bring or send a copy of their "Explanation of Benefits" to the VA Office in Room 112, Acadian Center.

Some Chapter 1607 applicants are eligible for the "Selective Reserves Kicker" that can increase the monthly rate from $100 to $350, depending on the MOS of the reservist. If applicants are eligible for the "kicker," they need to provide a copy of the contract.

Transfer students, or LSU students who have changed their degree plan after already receiving benefits under chapter 1607, must complete the VA form 22-1995 (Request for Change of Program or Place of Training). Click here for a list of approved programs at LSU Eunice.

All VA students must also bring a copy of their current schedule to the VA Office in rm. 112, Acadian Center, each semester, as soon as they schedule classes. The VA office at LSU Eunice cannot certify students to receive payments from the VA until a current schedule is received.
