Finding Electronic Books and Other Online Resources

The LeDoux Library has online access to whole books and book sections. These electronic books (or "e-books") can be helpful for assignments or curiosity. They are quality resources that the library purchases access to for our patrons that are not available elsewhere for free.

If you are looking for the Gale Virtual Reference Library, please see the Journals page.

There are also other types of resources the LeDoux Library has available. Currently, we have video tutorials on legal topics, and a video collection covering a wide variety of topics. More resources may be added in the future, so please check this page often for updates.

How Do I Use From Home?

The LeDoux Library gets the resources on this page by ordering them directly from the company. To use them from home, your user name is your full LSU Eunice email address (such as 5555@mail.lsue.edu) and your password is your LSU Eunice email password. Faculty and staff use their LSU Eunice email ID (not the full address) and their LSU Eunice email password.

There should be only 2 boxes (Username and Password). (If not, see Journals page.)

When you log-in, you will see a list of online resources ONLY, so use the descriptions below to choose which one you want to use.

Electronic Reference and Electronic Books

Electronic Reference

Electronic reference books often go directly to the entry, and may not give the original page numbers from the print edition, but are faster to search. Just like with the print versions, reference books are great places to start for background information and to get ideas for words to use when searching the library catalog or indexes and databases.

  • Credo Reference • Collection of about 490 reference books and growing, on about any topic imaginable. Great place to start if you don't know much about your subject.
  • Salem Health • Electronic version of Magill's Medical Guide, an encyclopedia of medical topics.
  • Salem History • Electronic version of Great Lives from History: The 20th Century, 1901-2000, with biographies of famous people from that time period.

Electronic Books

An "e-book" is almost the same as a print book, except you can read it on a computer. Most e-books will show every single page: covers, table of contents, and even the index.

  • ebrary: Academic Complete • Large collection of e-books, chosen just for community college students. When logging in using your LSU E email address, you have your own account to add notes, highlight sections, and do much more. (If on-campus, use the "sign in" link in the top right corner to access your personal account.)
  • NetLibrary eBook Collection • Smaller group of e-books, but easier to use than ebrary. You can also create your own account to save your favorites and add notes.

Additional Electronic Resources

  • CALI • The Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction: interactive lessons on many law topics. Please contact the library for the code to set up your own account.
  • Films On Demand • Collection of high-quality, educational films on a wide variety of topics. Videos can be viewed in their entirety or by segment.
  • A to Z Resources • Shows electronic resources only.
