Athletics to Induct First Hall of Fame Member

The second annual Bengal Hall of Fame Banquet will be held Sunday, Jan 30 beginning at 3 p.m. in the Acadian Center on the LSU Eunice campus.

Mel Didier will be the keynote speaker at the banquet. Didier played baseball and football at LSU in the 40s and later led Opelousas High School to the state football finals in 1956. He coached baseball at the University of Southwestern Louisiana and served as the university's athletic director.

Didier is a member of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and worked for numerous Major League Baseball teams. He's currently serving as a consultant for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The banquet will host a social hour at 2:30 p.m. with entertainment provided by Grammy Award nominees, Pine Leaf Boys.

During the banquet, LSU Eunice athletics will induct its first member into the Bengal Hall of Fame.

Tickets are $50 per person. Reserved tables are also available for $400 which includes eight tickets. Tickets may be purchased by calling 550-1417 or 457-5864.
