LSU Eunice Commencement Set for 3 p.m. Friday, December 18

EUNICE - Elbert Lee Guillory, Louisiana State Senator will be the commencement speaker when Louisiana State University Eunice holds fall graduation ceremonies at 3 p.m. Friday, December 18, in the gymnasium of the Health and Physical Education Building.

Guillory, an attorney from Opelousas, was elected to the Louisiana State Senate earlier this year, and represents District 24.

He sits on the senate's Judiciary C Committee, the Local & Municipal Affairs Committee and is Vice Chairman of the Retirement Committee.

Guillory earned his bachelor's degree from Norfolk State College in Virginia and his jurist doctorate from Rutgers Law School.

He is a member the board of the directors for the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce, Washington State Bank and the St. Landry Parish Indigent Defenders Board. He is an active member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church. In 2008, Guillory was award the Legislator of the Year award by the Louisiana State Troopers.

Some 105 students are candidates for graduation. Included are students who completed degree requirements during the summer and fall semesters.

LSU Eunice offers associate degrees in liberal arts, science, computer information technology, criminal justice, the care and development of young children, fire science, general studies, management, nursing, office information technology, paralegal studies, diagnostic medical sonography, radiologic technology, and respiratory care, as well as certificates in arson investigation, fire science, and office procedures.
