Three events will provide plenty of entertainment on campus over the next few days.
Guitarist Scott Porter will showcase his talents in the Union at noon on Friday, September 20. The 25-year-old's music has been compared to Jason Mraz and John Mayer. Porter has spent the past few years touring the country and has opened for national artist such as American Idol's Taylor Hicks, Jon McLaughlin, Bowling for Soup and Corey Smith. This event is sponsored by CAB.
On Wednesday, September 25 at noon in the LeDoux Library, Author Darrell Bourque will read poems from his new book Megan's Guitar and Other Poems from Acadie. The book is a reflection of contemporary life in Acadiana and is a story of legends of the journey of the Acadians from Canada to Louisiana.
Darrell Bourque's poetry collections include Call and Response and In Ordinary Light, New and Selected Poems. He is professor emeritus in English at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he served as the first Friends of the Humanities Honor Professor. He also served as Louisiana Poet Laureate in 2007-2008 and from 2009-2011.
He will also be speaking at the Louisiana Review Reading Series on Thursday, September 26 at 7 p.m. at Café Mosaic on Second Street in Eunice.
In conjunction with Bourque's visit, the LeDoux Library is hosting a quilt exhibit. The exhibit begins September 25.
