Commissioner of High Ed to address graduates.

EUNICE -- Dr. Kim Hunter Reed, Louisiana's Commissioner of Higher Education, will be the keynote speaker when LSU Eunice holds commencement exercises here at 10 a.m. Friday, December 14.

Over 100 graduates from the fall and summer semesters are expected to participate in commencement.

Reed, who was appointed in April of 2018, is the only female in the country currently serving as a state higher education leader who has led higher ed in more than one state.

Before being named Louisiana's Commissioner, Reed served as executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education. She also served in President Barack Obama’s administration as deputy undersecretary at the U.S. Department of Education and led the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Reed chaired Louisiana’s higher education transition team in 2015 and served as the State’s policy director. Reed also served as chief of staff and deputy commissioner for public affairs for the Louisiana Board of Regents and executive vice president of the University of Louisiana System.

The Lake Charles native received a doctorate in public policy from Southern University, a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from LSU.

LSU Eunice offers associate degrees in liberal arts, science, business information technology, criminal justice, education, fire science, general studies, management, nursing, radiologic technology, respiratory care, and numerous transfer programs in over 200 fields.
