EUNICE - The LSU Eunice campus activated a test of the university's Emergency Alert system at 10:14 a.m. Friday. There was no emergency on campus. The text and e-mail messages sent were a test of the system.

The test was sent to all registered students, faculty and staff.

If a student, faculty or staff member did not receive a message via email or sms message from LSU Eunice, they should login to their myLSUE account and update their mobile phone and email address under the Emergency Alert tab.

EUNICE - Enrollment for the spring 2012 semester at Louisiana State University Eunice was down from the spring 2011 semester, but showed positive signs that the enrollment slippage last year may have slowed, according to final regular spring semester enrollment figures released by the university's registrar's office.

Enrollment is 2,972 students. LSU Eunice's enrollment for Spring 2012 semester was only 0.3 percent down from the Fall of 2011 enrollment of 2,982.

"Traditionally spring enrollments are always less than those in the fall," said LSU Eunice Chancellor William Nunez. However the limited decline of 0.3 percent from Fall to Spring in academic year 2011-2012 was the least drop recorded over the past several years."

LSU Eunice experienced drops of 4.5 percent between semesters in the 2010-2011 academic year, 2.9 percent in 2009-2010, and 2.5 percent in 2008-2009.

"This data demonstrates that the campus' efforts to enhance both its student retention and recruitment success are beginning to have a measurable impact," said Nunez.

The largest single area of improvement in enrollment came from an increase in students in East Baton Rouge Parish in the Early Start Program at University High. The Early Start program allows students in high school to earn college credit through LSU Eunice.

"In addition, the campus also demonstrated improved success in its efforts to increase Early Start participants from area high schools, with the largest single area of enrollment increase coming from the addition of the 121 students at the LSU A&M's University High," said Nunez

The early start program allows students in high school to get a jump start on their college education by the earning of college credit through LSU Eunice.

Students from 53 parishes are enrolled in LSU Eunice classes, including off-campus classes. Parishes with 20 or more students attending LSU Eunice this fall are St. Landry, 658; Acadia, 400; Lafayette, 236; East Baton Rouge, 149; Evangeline, 149; Rapides, 121; Iberia, 91; Vermilion, 87; Jeff Davis, 71; St. Martin, 68; Allen, 50; Calcasieu, 49; Avoyelles, 33.
