Water Aerobics

If you are looking for a good all-around form of aerobic exercise, try water aerobics.  Come enjoy an hour with friends while you improve your cardiovascular fitness, strength, stamina, and flexibility.  Exercise in the water also helps increase joint movement and reduce stress.  You will use a noodle and flat boards for your workout.

Computing for the Terrified II

This course is a follow-up to Computing for the Terrified.  This course is targeted to students who have either completed the Computing for the Terrified course or already have very basic computer skills.  Students will learn computing skills beyond the basics and have ample time to practice new skills.  If you have basic skills in computer use and would like to increase your skill level to become comfortable, proficient, and productive when using a computer, this course is for you. 

 

Topics to be covered include e-mail skills beyond the basic user level; creating documents on MS Word and MS PowerPoint; and introduction to the use of MS Excel and MS Access.  In addition, you will learn search techniques for the World Wide Web and use the Internet to complete practical, hands-on learning assignments.  You will receive 12 hours of instruction and 3 hours of supervised lab time to practice new skills.

Introduction to Basic Genealogy

Do you like a good mystery? Would you like to play detective?

 

Tracing your ancestors as far back as possible can bring great satisfaction and pleasure. Discovering and documenting one’s family is like solving a giant puzzle. Each relative previously unknown and genealogically discovered is its own special thrill. No less thrilling is the discovery of records rich with information which would have never come to light unless you had gotten caught up in the lure of genealogy.

 

Come join us and learn where and how to start your personal quest to learn your family history. This class will help you learn how to trace your family’s ancestry, conduct research, document and build a family tree. Start putting the pieces of your ancestry together now.

Writing Your Family History

Develop your autobiographical writing skills by focusing on family stories and family history.  You will follow step-by-step writing exercises based on your family history.  In addition, you will use simple writing techniques such as dialogue, character description and character analysis used in conjunction with your family history and knowledge of historical events, culminating in a family history narrative.  Fun, hands-on activities will help you record your individual genealogy in narrative form.

Traditional Cajun Dance

Allons danser, cher! Everybody loves to dance the Cajun Two-Step and Cajun Waltz, and now you can too. Come with little or no experience and master basic steps and turns in this FUN 4-week course.

 

Your instructor is Paula Lafleur, a certified dance instructor with 20+ years' experience teaching adults to dance. She'll show you the secrets of great Cajun dancers that help you have more confidence on the dance floor, and more fun, too!

Louisiana Jitterbug

Louisiana Jitterbug is what everybody's dancing, on every dance floor, everywhere you go.  And now, you can too.  Come with little or no experience and master basic steps and turns in this FUN 4-week course.  Class music will feature Louisiana artists.

 

Certified dance instructor Paula Lafleur will help you learn cool and popular jitterbug moves to make you a more skilled dance partner, have more confidence on the dance floor, and let YOU have more fun, too!

Arrangements From Louisiana Flora

This course provides you with a general overview of the basic concepts common to designing arrangements consisting of plants and flowers readily available from Louisiana gardens and/or local retailers. You will receive information on the use of plants, flowers and containers for creating individual floral arrangements. In Session 1, you will become familiar with plant materials, flowers, containers, floral designs and construction techniques. For Session 2 you will harvest, beforehand, greenery, flowers, twigs, fruit, vegetables, etc. to be used in creating a design piece.

Very Easy Beginning Quilting 

(Sewing Machine Required)

 

Come make a beautiful baby quilt top while you learn beginning quilting technique.  If you can sew a straight line, you can make a beautiful gift for a very lucky baby!  The skills you learn in this class you can apply to quilts of any size.  Bring a sack lunch and a sewing machine.  Your instructor will provide a fabric kit.

Just in time for Christmas!  Come learn how to make beautiful – and quick and easy! – beaded earrings, bracelets, and other goodies for all the ladies on your list.  Easy enough for first-time jewelry makers.  Fun for everyone!
