Roots Heritage Day,
Nov. 8, 2003
|
| Saturday's Roots Heritage offered 12 hours of musical
performances, workshops, demonstrations, jam sessions: the best day of activities
highlighting the culture of Southwest Louisiana out of all the events depicted on LSUE's
web site going back to 1999. For the admission price of only $5, you got to hear Marc
Savoy describe his opinions about the current state of Cajun music and the watch the Savoy
Family Band perform, see the legendary Bois Sec Ardoin playing music with his sons and
grandson, attend an accordion workshop with Steve Riley and Jeffery Broussard, take part
in jam sessions with top musicians, and on and on. Shown at
right and immediately below are the Ville Platte Playboys. The other photos are
accompanied by brief identifications.

Walter Lee, clerk of court for Evangeline Parish, is shown discussing
his many years playing the Cajun fiddle. Gervis "Pica" Stanford accompanied him
