Softball, Baseball Number One in Nation

Both the LSU Eunice baseball and softball teams remain tops the country as both were ranked as the top team in the latest national polls released by the NJCAA today.

The baseball Bengals, 34-5, entered the season as preseason No. 1 and have held the position all season, briefly sharing the top spot with Western Oklahoma State College during the March 13 poll.

In this week's poll, LSU Eunice was the only team in the top 20 to receive votes for the No. 1 position, as Des Moines Area Community College moved into the No. 2 spot after jumping Western Oklahoma (No. 3), Catawba Valley Community College remained No. 4, while heartland Community College moved into the No. 5 position round out the top spots in the poll.

The baseball team is coming off of a 7-0 road win over Centenary College last night, and have several players scattered throughout the top of national categories.

Brady Domingue leads the country with nine wins and Casey Rodrigue has stolen 40bases to lead that category. Fellow Bengal Landon Thibodeaux is second in the nation with 29 steals as well.

Domingue also has tallied 74strikeouts this season, the third-most in the country. Rodrigue, Garrett Deschamp and Stefan Trosclair are all tied for 10thin the country with 33 RBIs.

In their third poll of the season, the Lady Bengal softball team was also the only team to receive first place votes, as this week's poll sees Phoenix College ranked second, Region 23 foe Jones County Junior College moving up to No. 3, Heartland Community College No. 4 and another Region 23 opponent, Mississippi Gulf C-oast Community College, rounding out the top five.

The softball Lady Bengals, 38-4, travel on the road today to take on NAIA opponent LSU Alexandria in a doubleheader.
Kelsey Hollier is tied for the most RBIs in the country with 56 RBIs through Tuesday's games, while Emily Nolan's 43 RBIs rank tied for eighth in the nation,

Pitcher Julienne Broussard has tallied 18 wins on the season, sitting second in the nation in that category.

The Lady Bengals return home on Friday with a dolubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. against Baton Rouge Community College before they host Bossier Parish Community College on Monday afternoon.

The Bengal baseball team continues its short road trip this weekend with a three-game set against Delgado Community College in New Orleans, with a doubleheader on Saturday before wrapping up the series on Sunday afternoon.
