LSUE at the World Championship Crawfish Etouffee Cookoff

March 28, 1999

All competitors in the World Championship Crawfish Etouffee Cookoff design their own booths. In anticipation of the start of intercollegiate competition next year when the LSUE Bengals take the field for the first time, LSUE's booth, sponsored by the Student Government Association, represented a baseball dugout.  The theme of the booth was "Come Home to Great Etouffee." LSUE's booth took second place (club and organization category) in the showmanship competition that is part of the cookoff. Holding the crawfish trap trophy is Jesse Guillory, SGA president.  Though LSUE didn't win in the cooking category this year, in past years LSUE has had winning entries.  We're already making plans to prepare next year's first place etouffee! While the etouffee cookoff teams were busy preparing their entries, the crowd at the cookoff danced to great Cajun music under the pavilion (where everyone could stay dry during rain showers in the afternoon). Shown at left is Mary Tweedel from Church Point, a truly accomplished Cajun accordion player who joined Don Fontenot and les Amis de la Louisianne on stage to perform a number.
