ACADEMIC CONTINUITY PLAN AND GUIDELINES

What are the principles guiding the Academic Continuity Plan?

The two main principles guiding the LSU and LSUE Academic Continuity Plan are maintaining the health and wellness of the campus community and ensuring the continuity of academic programming.

 

What current guidelines is the institution following?

LSUE is currently following the State of Louisiana and CDC guidelines.

  • Wash hands frequently
  • Cough into elbow
  • Travel: see the official LSU Coronavirus webpage to find official updates
  • Social distancing

 

Is there a plan to continue instructional activities so we can complete the semester?

Yes. The plan for the short-term is to move to utilizing technology including a low-tech online, remote and simulated instructional environments to complete the semester. The timeline on this is short, and effective tools and techniques can be implemented for most

 

STUDENT RESOURCES FOR MOVING TO ONLINE INSTRUCTION 

Can students come to campus to use computer labs?

Access to a limited number of computers is being provided to current LSUE students in order to allow for the continuity/completion of coursework in the event the student does not have access to technology.

Required protocols for social distancing and disinfecting areas between uses are being followed.

ONLY CURRENT LSUE STUDENTS with a valid Bengal ID will be allowed to use the computers labs.

§  Beginning March 30, 2020-Computer labs in the LSUE Library will be open from 8:00 am-6:00 pm Monday & Wednesday, 8:00 am-4:00 pm Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Staff will be available to assist. Students will be asked to show their Bengal ID upon entering as well as for use of printing services. However, the Library is not open to the general public at this time.

  • If you are scheduled to take the TEAS from March 23, 2020 to April 12, 2020, we will work with you to reschedule your exam for a later date. Although we are investigating the possibility of remote testing and proctoring for the TEAS, it is not currently available. If this option does become available, it will not be at a financial burden to the student. It is important that you continue preparing for the test so that you are ready to do your best should the opportunity to reschedule present itself sooner. 
  • Students must wash hands or use the sanitizer provided before entering the computer labs.
  • Do not visit the lab if you or someone close to you has:
    • Had a fever/chills.
    • Cough or shortness of breath.
    • Traveled internationally in the last 30 days.
    • Had known exposure to a respiratory illness.
  • The situation is changing rapidly in response to COVID-19. It is important to stay informed of changes that may occur by checking your email and the LSUE website frequently. 

Please note that if you have an issue with log in credentials such as username and password, please contact OIT at it@lsue.edu or 337-550-1307. You will also need to have your Bengal ID card to print in the computer labs.

 

Can students who have learning support needs due to documented disabilities receive appropriate accommodations in the remote learning environment?

Yes. Students who are registered with the Office of Disability Services should stay in close contact with their office liaison to ensure continuity through the end of the semester. Accommodation letters have been e-mailed to faculty for students registered with the Office of Disability Services. Faculty will be able to set testing accommodations in the online environment. Students, who have not registered with the Office of Disability Services but anticipate they will need to do so in order to successfully complete the semester, should do so immediately. Are traditional student support services still available to students through the Student Success Center and other mechanisms?

Yes. Students can access support services, even remotely. Those services include advising, coaching, early interventions, tutoring (primarily through SmartThinking at this time), disability services, etc.

 

What if a student does not have remote access to instructional materials?

Students, who do not have remote access to instructional materials should notify their professor immediately. For CURRENT LSUE STUDENTS ONLY-Computer labs in the library will be available (see below) and the Testing Center will be open to allow for continuity and course completion.

What if a student becomes ill and cannot complete academic coursework for a period of time?

Students who become ill should communicate any difficulties in completing the coursework to their instructor as soon as possible.  Standard practices for courses will apply, including observing the course policies on make-ups and the requesting of “I” grades.

 

If face-to-face classes are not being held, and a student needs to speak to a faculty advisor, how will that be accomplished?

Students will be able to seek advisor assistance through email, and possibly by phone, depending on the faculty member.

What if a student needs a computer lab to take a proctored exam?

Beginning March 30, 2020- The Testing Center is available for use by appointment only for those current LSUE students in need of resources to continue their coursework and testing. Required protocols for social distancing and disinfecting areas between uses are being followed.

ONLY CURRENT LSUE STUDENTS with a valid Bengal ID will be allowed to use the Testing Center. To schedule an exam, go to the LSUE Testing Center Website at http://www.lsue.edu/testing-center/ and under “TESTING” choose “SCHEDULE AN EXAM.”

Since face-to-face classes were moved online, are students responsible for added fees for proctoring services?

Students are not responsible for the cost, if any, of added proctoring fees associated with these courses. Currently, discussions are under way as to how this will be accomplished.

 

Is Bengal Village open?

Bengal Village is currently open for students who do not have other housing arrangements or are unable to move out at this time.  Contact the Housing Office at 337-550-1410 or email housing@lsue.edu with any questions.  Staff are on-call 24/7 to assist residents after business hours and on weekends for the remainder of the semester.

Guests are not allowed at this time.

  

Since LSUE is encouraging students to go home, should I completely move out of Bengal Village?

Because all courses are being moved to online formats, residents are able to finish the semester remotely from home.  LSU Eunice is offering a housing and meal plan credit to students who move out early.  Check your LSUE email for more details on this and for instructions on proper move-out procedure.  Currently, the last day residents will have to move out for the Spring 2020 semester is Saturday, May 9, but everyone is strongly urged to vacate as soon as possible.  Residents who move out after May 9 are subject to additional fees.

 

Are dining services available?

Dining will be provided for Bengal Village residents only.

  • Breakfast at 9:00 am 
  • Lunch at 11:00 am until to 1:00 pm
  • Dinner to be picked up by 1:00 pm for the evening meal

Acadian Center is open to pick up and go only.

 

Are events on LSUE’s campus cancelled?

Yes. All events are cancelled until further notice.

 

Are any exams, quizzes, or assignments due March 16-20th        

If the class is a face-to-face class that is being converted to online delivery, no exams, assignments, or quizzes will be due until the week of March 30th.

 

How do students get advised, get cleared, and register classes?

If you are in the Pathways to Success Program, your advisor will assist you in registration. In preparation for advising, complete the Advising Request Form located at lsue.edu/advising.

If you are not in the Pathways to Success Program, are confident in the registration procedure and know what classes are needed in the degree plan, email your advisor and request to be cleared. Be sure to state which semester you are requesting clearance (SPIS, SU, or FA2020). If you require an override for a course, email your advisor with the course number and section. Students may also complete the Advising Request Form located at lsue.edu/advising. The form will be routed to your advisor by the Office of Student Affairs. The advisor will then assist your remotely. It may take up to 3 business days for the response since all advising is now being accomplished remotely.
